DEFRA Release Annual Fly Tipping Statistics
The annual fly tipping statistics for the reporting year 2023-2024 has been released by DEFRA.
The data is based on Local Authority submissions through the WasteDataFlow reporting system.
Among the statistics included, it was noted that local authorities in England dealt with 1.15 million fly-tipping incidents, an increase of 6% from the 1.08 million reported in 2022/23 and 60% of fly-tips involved household waste, an increase of 5% on the previous reporting year.
DEFRA also noted a drop in fixed penalty notices (FPN) reported and attributed some of this to a reminder issued to councils that FPNs issued only for littering should not be reported through the WasteDataFlow system.
Some revisions of 2022-23 statistics were also included in the notice.
